For some, the beginning of a new year comes with resolutions and fitness goals, but for Android lovers, it comes with the promise of a new Samsung Galaxy S device. This time, it’s the S24 series set to be released on January 17th. As has become a trend, leaks have preceded the actual launch of the device, suggesting a “Galaxy AI” feature. Interestingly, the same leaks suggest that this feature may eventually cost you money to use.
Galaxy AI is free for a limited time?
It is almost certain at this point that one of the main selling points of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will be the “Galaxy AI”. With the popularity of AI these days, it is no surprise, especially after the Google Pixel 8 was released with its AI features heavily marketed.
However, according to Android Headlines, Galaxy AI may eventually come with a price tag for you to use its features. That’s right: a leak suggests that this important feature will only be free to use until 2025, after which it is presumed that Samsung will start charging for it.
There is no certainty whether they will charge only for premium features or for all of them, or if it will be a subscription-based service. Whether this is truly Samsung’s plan will not be known until the actual launch arrives to formalize things. But if this is true, many people probably won’t be happy.
Rumored features coming with Galaxy AI
If you are going to have to pay to use Galaxy AI at some point, then the features have to be good, right? Not much is known about what to expect from Samsung’s AI feature, but there is plenty of speculation about it.
One thing that will certainly come is a feature called AI Live Translate Call. Samsung mentioned this in a blog post last year and it’s supposed to make it possible to translate a call in real time while you talk. If it works as expected, this feature could be a game-changer.
There are rumors that one of the AI features offered will be a generative AI model called Samsung Gauss. You can think of it as having ChatGPT integrated into your Samsung device. We also expect some AI camera features to rival the Pixel – perhaps something similar to the Best Take feature. AI will also likely play a significant role in the Samsung keyboard, according to tipster Alvin at X.
Besides AI, what can we expect from the Galaxy S24 series?
Galaxy AI will be an important part of the Samsung Galaxy S24 presentation, but that’s just one part of the show. The new hardware will be revealed and we know quite a bit about what to expect in terms of specifications.
As usual, there will be three devices in the series without changes to the naming convention, and all will run on One UI 6.1. The S24 Ultra will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the S24 and S24+ will have the Snapdragon in the US and the Exynos 2400 in Europe. You will have 8 GB of RAM on the S24 and 12 GB on the other models.

In the display department, there will be 6.2″ FHD+, 6.7″ QHD+, and 6.8″ QHD+ screens with a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz for S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, respectively. Notably, with the camera hardware, the S24 Ultra will replace the 10x periscope telephoto lens with a 5x lens, but will likely achieve sharp 10x photos through digital zoom.
The series will be officially presented at Samsung Unpacked on January 17th in San Jose, CA. Will you be placing a pre-order or will you be waiting to see what Samsung’s foldables have to offer later in the year?
